Well if you have avi files best way is to burn them on DVD just like that. Cos you can fill DVD with few files and it will play on every possible standalone player. Some people like to CONVERT avi to DVD but it's pointless cos you'll get bad looking DVD and you are actually doing nothing good. If you want single event on DVD rather download DVD-R and burn it so you will end up with good quality. To make your own rips check http://forum.doom9.org There are lots of GUIs for ripping and encoding and I suggest that you try most popular. They are graphic interfaces for easier set up cos all the actual tools are working with command lines. Choice is basically which GUI you like most and which one is easiest for you to navigate. Most popular GUIs are Gordian Knot, Staxrip and MeGUI, I'd recommend that you skip Auto GK. GK is bit complicated to set up and can be pain in the ass. Other two look more user friendly and you can download various profiles with different setup, so it's a good start. Regardless what you choose for use read tutorials and play with settings. To get fast results for testing purposes use DVD Shrink and reauthor some DVD so you have only trailer or something short for encoding. That would be first steps, everything else depends on what you choose and then what your goals are. |

To burn a movie to a dvd or cd I simply used to burn with Nero for example as data cd or data dvd. Now I watch everything directly on the tv from the comp via hdmi so havnt burned anything in years. But in theory thats all you need to do. |

You could just buy a cheap media centre instead of a dvd player and put what you want to watch onto a usb stick. Thats what i've got set up for if i want to watch something on my bedroom tv. |
