According to NOS teletext (Dutch ceefax) the mayor van der Laan of Amsterdam wants to put a stop to all the freefights and kickbox events in Amsterdam. He calls these events a gathering of organized crime.
He wants promotions of such fights to require a license which the municipal of Amsterdam can refuse. Also van der Laan wishes the tenants of the locations where these events take place to stop. Amongst these locations are the Amsterdam Arena, Sporthallen Zuid and the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. Amsterdam owns parts of these complexes.
This will be a problem mostly for big kickbox promoter It's Showtime in the Netherlands as many of their events are held in Amsterdam. It can also mean they will have to go to another city like Rotterdam or maybe Utrecht.

How come he calls it a gathering of organised crime?
Are there indications of organised crime being involved in kickboxing in amsterdam or is it just fantasies?

They should move it to Rotterdam, let working class have some fun and leave artsy fartsy events to Amsterdam where it belongs

It's all about betting. If they don't bet through legal bookmakers but inbetween themselves state doesn't get tax cut.

Yea guess it's organised crime because of illigal bets, but Amsterdam is like the Mekka of Kickboxing right? So I guess there will come allot of protests IF these laws will be introduced. However I haven't heard anything about it on the news and I live in the Netherlands myself, so it probably ain't in a far stage yet. Well they may always move the events to Enschede or Groningen as far as I'm concerned  . But yea Holland nowadays isn't what outlanders think it is  .
