Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White credited Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson for helping to save the mixed martial arts event planned for GM Place June 12.
The UFC threatened to cancel the Vancouver event earlier this week and move it to Cincinnati due to administrative hurdles which had not been cleared. However officials met Wednesday to clear up the outstanding insurance and liability issues for UFC 115.
“I want to thank mayor gregor roberson of Vancouver for kickin ass and getting it done!!,” White wrote on a post on his Twitter page Thursday evening. “It was your mayor that made it happen guys.”
Vancouver will be the second Canadian city to host a UFC event. Montreal hosted matches in 2008 and ’09 and is slated to host another card May 8 at the Bell Centre.Source: http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/ ... story.html
