Stylistically... it doesn't make sense...
You take a legend in MMA versus a legend in Boxing, in an MMA fight...
Not that Toney doesn't have a punchers chance, but it is the ONLY thing he's got.
If I were in Randys shoes I would chop on Toneys legs
1 thing Boxers have problems with other than takedowns are legkicks
From a business point of view, it is probably the only logical thing you could do with a guy like James Toney at your hands...
You can't give him B-level competition, because he has a legitimate name in the world of professional sports...
Personally these kind of fights excite me though... It's one of these fights that will "show that MMA/Boxing is better than Boxing/MMA" as certain fundamentalistic obsessors would have put it...
Although im a general fight fan, the Ray Mercer KO of Tim Sylvia really did hurt deep!

I think this is in some way nice because it sounds like a fight where MMA is going back to it's roots.
Wasn't MMA created to get different styles of martial arts in the ring/cage to see who is the best in general?
I don't know the full background of Toney, like did he ever train anything else than boxing but we will see it now.
I do think Randy will win this though, he is used to doing these kind of fights and still has skill, however a KO is always a threat. Would I buy a PPV (if I would do this normally) because of this match up. No way, but I would like to see it for free

maybe its the fight what they want some people to see , boxer vs mma. something to show via mma? maybe not fans want to see this but some random people who's intrested about this. its knockout in 30 sec or hugging in floor and maybe even we see submission.

My thoughts: Couture knows its an easy fight, Toney will have no groundgame to talk about unless he is a freaking superhuman that learns 100 times faster then the rest of us. Randy knows this, off cource accepts the fight and does his best to hype it up saying that he respect Toney and that he doesnt think it will be easy. Dana wanna bring boxing fans to MMA and is happy to sell more PPV's and tickets and Randy will win and get a titleshot maybe soon and make even more PPV's sold.
Not a fight that interests me at all on one hand, but a fight I will watch with big interest at the same time.
Weird.
