UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on July 3, 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

Background
Shane Carwin won the interim heavyweight championship by defeating Frank Mir at UFC 111, will face current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
Cheick Kongo was scheduled to face Roy Nelson, but a back injury has sidelined Kongo indefinently. Nelson is expected to face Junior dos Santos at UFC 117.
Alessio Sakara was set to fight Nate Marquardt, but Sakara pulled out of the bout after the death of his father.
Jacob Volkmann was scheduled to fight Paul Kelly as one of the preliminary fights, but Kelly reportedly had to pull out of the July 3 fight due to visa issues. The bout will possibly be rescheduled for a later date.
Also, UFC newcomer Ricardo Romero was scheduled to fight Steve Cantwell after Cantwell's recent medical ban ended. However, the fight was cancelled for unknown reasons and Cantwell was replaced by UFC returnee Seth Petruzelli.
On June 17, 2010, Julio Paulino withdrew from his fight against Daniel Roberts. Forrest Petz returned to the UFC and replaced Paulino.

For over a year now I've been telling everyone that Shane Carwin is the next HW champ ... nobody really knew about him but I've been impressed with his finishes....
That and now Brock is gonna have to fight an overgrown dude just like himself (their height weight stats are close, but brock still looks a lot bigger)
can't wait for this fight ....
Lytle and Brown is going to be a crazy brawl .. neither of those guys back down
Excited to see sotiropolous fighting ... and it's going to be a good match with pellegrino in there also

Yeah, I cannot wait for that fight either - for me also, Carwin takes it.
Such a fun card all round - so many stand-up slugfests (on paper) and some really good match ups. Prelims and Spike card are excellent too.

Yeah trust me mate, there will be a competition! We always tend to wait to create the competitions until the week before the event as otherwise it could give us a lot of hassle if there are any late changes in the fightcard. Specially for you, the participants as you have to go back and change your picks etc, so to avoid too much trouble for everybody we do later. But yeah there will off course be a massive competition for this event
